This artistic and active family needed more space but wanted something more than a "shoebox" addition. Redhouse created a vibrant and light filled second story that is integrated into the existing architecture. Rather than detracting from the original, this addition adds charm and character to the facade of the house.

Court Street Offices

Red House does commercial projects as well. With over twenty years experience, I am well versed in current codes including ADA compliance. I have experience in tenant improvements for offices, retail and restaurants, medical facilities, laboratories, industrial and ecclesiastical projects.

Before

Pictured above is the Court Street Office building, originally a vernacular Victorian home. The building had been scarred by fire, neglect, and a number of unfinished substandard remodeling efforts. Red House was brought on board to work with the city in securing a building permit and bringing the building up to current code and ADA standards. It now houses a number of professional offices and boasts the latest amenities within a charming historic building in Downtown Woodland.

Great Room for a Great Family

These homeowners needed more space for the family. Red House added a family room expansion with an exciting three-sided fireplace in place of the original "builder basic" fireplace. The opening between the original greatroom and the hall to the master suite was closed in for added privacy, creating an art niche in the new dining room.

The History in the Making...

The original Red House was designed in 1859 for William Morris, father of the Arts and Crafts movement in England. It is considered among architectural historians as the first "modern" home. Eschewing Victorian excess in favor of a more simplified design, Morris and his architect Phillip Webb created a charming and livable family home. It was described by Dante Rossetti, prominent artist of the time, as "more a poem than a house." The home’s bright, airy spaces and intrinsic connection to the garden set a new standard for residential design - that of informality, structural integrity and the celebration of quality craftsmanship.

The New Kitchen

This historic 1868 home in Woodland, CA was plagued by a mish mash of previous additions, a small dark kitchen and only one bathroom for the growing family. Red House cleaned up the chaos, added a master bathroom and created a family friendly kitchen filled with light.
